| Beginning Choral Ensemble (Beginning Chorus) | NONE | This course is open to all 9th-grade students and students with no prior singing experience who wish to sing in a chorus. It gives emphasis to the enjoyment of singing choral literature from a variety of musical styles. It endeavors to develop attributes that make a person a productive member of any choral group: good rehearsal habits, proper vocal technique, music literacy, musical and personal maturity, and, most importantly, an enhanced appreciation of music. This course will prepare students for more advanced choral music study. |
| Concert Choir (Intermediate Mixed Chorus) | Beginning Choral Ensemble or Teacher Recommendation | This course is open to all students in grades 10-12 who are interested in developing proper vocal and choral technique. Students develop music sight-reading skills, the understanding of standard music symbols and terminology, and learn to sing with expression and technical accuracy. Students will also learn teamwork and self-discipline through musical performance. |
| Women's Chorale (Intermediate Women's Chorus) | Beginning Chorale Ensemble or Teacher Recommendation | This course is designed for girls in grades 10-12 who are interested in developing proper vocal and choral technique. Students develop music sight-reading skills, the understanding of standard music symbols and terminology, and learn to sing with expression and technical accuracy. | Advanced Women's Chorale (Advanced Women's Chorus) | Audition Only | This course is a select women's ensemble consisting of students with advanced musical skills. The purpose of this course is to develop expertise in the art of vocal and choral performance and to foster a deep appreciation for music and music performance. Students learn to sight-read music accurately and expressively, sing with expression and technical accuracy, perform literature from various stylistic periods and cultures and identify ways to transfer musical knowledge and skills to lifelong community, career, and leisure activities. |
| Chamber Choir (Advanced Mixed Chorus) | Audition Only | Chamber Choir is a select mixed choir for students with advanced musical skills. The purpose of this course is to develop expertise in the art of vocal and choral performance and to foster a deep appreciation for music and music performance. Students learn to sight-read music accurately and expressively, sing with expression and technical accuracy, perform literature from various stylistic periods and cultures, and identify ways to transfer musical knowledge and skills to lifelong community, career, and leisure activities. |

Emphasis is placed on the elements of music, terminology, composers, form, and style within a historical perspective. music theory and music history course. It is designed for
students with a serious interest in music and is especially
recommended for those considering a career in music. This
course provides superior students with an opportunity to earn
college credit. Topics to be studied include scales,
intervals, key signatures, chords, rhythmic notation, counterpoint,
four-voice realization of figured bass symbols, sight singing, and
melodic dictation. |
