Mr. David Roth,
a native of Marietta, Georgia, graduated magna cum laude from
the University of Georgia in December, 2003 with a Bachelor of Music
degree in Music Education and Music Composition. While at UGA, Mr.
Roth studied clarinet under Drs. Dannene Drummond, D. Ray McClellan,
and Theodore Jahn, and studied composition under Drs. Leonard V.
Ball, Jr. and John Corina. In addition, he has studied at the
University of North Texas under Dr. Cindy McTee (composition) and
Mr. Daryl Coad (clarinet).
Mr. Roth was a member of the
University of Georgia Redcoat Band, Basketball Band, and Derbies Pep
Band. He was also a band conductor for one of the university’s
concert bands in the spring 2002, under the tutelage of Dr. John
Culvahouse. Mr. Roth was also a member of the Carolina Crown Drum
and Bugle Corps from 2000-2003. In 2000, he marched soprano in the
brass line, and was the corps’ drum major from 2001-2003. In
addition to conducting the corps for three years, Mr. Roth helped
found the Carolina Crown Student Leadership Task Force, an
initiative aimed at enhancing the level of student leadership within
the corps and still in effect today.
While completing his studies at UGA, Mr. Roth student
taught in his home of Cobb County at Kennesaw Mountain High School
and Dickerson Middle School, and he returns to Kennesaw Mountain in
January, 2004 as an assistant band director. He is active as an
adjudicator and clinician, and teaches private lessons for students interested in
either clarinet or conducting. His professional affiliations
include the National Band Association, Music Educator's National
Conference, Pi Kappa Lambda, and Phi Mu
Alpha Sinfonia.
